What do you do when your computer hangs or doesn't work properly because of so many applications open in it? You just reboot it. Right? Well, our mind is kind-off similar to the computer. It also needs a reboot. Here's how you can reboot your brain.
My friends always ask me "Why do you sleep during the daytime? It reduces your brain power and IQ."
And I always answer by saying…
It’s not sleeping it’s power napping.
It’s a myth that sleeping in day time specifically in the afternoon reduces brain activity.
Actually, sleeping increases your brain activity and makes it more active and responsive.
I started my job a month back. Before that, I was taking power naps in the daytime during 3-5 PM but when the job started, I was not able to do it. And I found that before joining job even though working the whole day I was able to work at night too with the same responsiveness. But now I was just feeling sleepy at 10 PM only. So I started taking power naps just after my lunch for at least 50 mins.
And doing it every day, I found that when I do the powernap for like an hour and when I get up I feel more energetic and responsive to the things happening around me, I can think clearly, I can ideate on tasks and I feel productive.
It is also scientifically that taking powernap for around 40-50 mins increases your reaction time by 20%. So, let me tell you the other benefits of power naps.
Benefits of Power naps
Makes you more reactive
Reduces Stress
Make you think clearly (Vision)
Increases your productivity
Increases your patience
Increases your focus
Increases your motor skills like typing
Helps you in decision making and memorizing things
Shocked!! Right? This much benefits of power naps… So now, you must be wondering how can you incorporate power naps into your daily schedule? Well here are some tips.
How to apply it in your daily life.
Time it well between 1-3 PM, if you are a night owl then make it between 5-6 PM
Make your room cool, dark and quiet.
Silence your phone (No Disturbances)
Set an alarm or timer for 50-60 mins.
Have some coffee right after the nap
It’s difficult for most people to do this because of work from home and office hours. But you can definitely do it.
I take out 1 hour from my daily schedule for lunch in this time, I spend the first 20 mins eating lunch and the next 40 to 50 mins as powernap. As we all are working from home so this is quite possible for you to do it.
So this is how you can reboot your brain. Let me know if this helps you in being productive in the comments below.
